Honestly, I never even got started. I will always forget to do it at the end of the year. I will hear people say all the things they wanted to accomplish the next year. Most of the goals they had were coming from external sources.
It takes approximately 66 days to form/change behavior and 254 days to form a habit.
The problem with new year’s resolutions is that, in my opinion, people look at external sources instead of doing the work within. Yeah, that Instagram account looks good with that person’s curated photos, exercising, and eating healthy, but you will never accomplish that goal because you haven’t done your homework.
- Why are you setting a goal?
- How are you going to accomplish that?
- When are you going to start?
- Are you committed to doing the work?

Instead of New Year’s resolutions, I do this exercise I learned from Christine Kane many years ago. She talks about it on her podcast The Word of The Year
Don’t get me wrong, I’m big on goal settings, but when it comes to making a new year resolution plan I lean on my Word of The Year to work on my goals.
This is about finding guidance, not cracking the whip. It’s about how a single word can manifest what your life is calling out of you right now.

As I was working on my word for 2021, I started thinking about how slow my business growth has been. Why? What have I been doing wrong? Reflection on all the years I’ve been choosing my one word- I came to the conclusion I wasn’t ready for what’s ahead. I was only getting prepared.
2016 WOTY Confidence – This is the year my sister was diagnosed with leukemia I really started paying attention to my WOTY
2021 I need to TRUST the process. It’s not my timing. It’s HIS timing. I trust God’s plans for me! And I’m choosing the path of Most resistance.
