Having to deal with all the changes and challenges that you face during your adolescence can be really hard! Learning to cope with the disease and talking about it with people who just; do not understand; can spin out of control for the child or teenager.

Welcome to the show! My guest today is Christina Fernandez. She is a translator and interpreter. Her main focus right now is to take care of her father, who has Parkinson’s. She is such a lovely person; who gives this positive energy to everyone she meets.

In this conversation, we talked about how she regained her self-confidence after being bullied as a child due to her condition with alopecia- an autoimmune disease that; causes hair loss.

It wasn’t until years later that I realized how much of an impact the coping of my hair falling out had on my mental state; it was really unhealthy

In this episode, you will also learn:

  • Why getting help from a therapist is important
  • How meditation and visualization can improve your health
  • Dealing with an autoimmune disease
  • How being bullied as a child can have long term effects in your adult life

Confidence is a practice more than anything

Building a support system is of importance for our mental health and recovery from trauma. This can include: your friends, family, counselor, therapist, life coaches, volunteering for a charity, create a book club, just to mention a few.

Don’t try to do life alone. Perhaps dealing with a disease can feel lonely; your experience is unique to you, but you are not alone.
